Akshay Tritiya also known as Akha teej is widely celebrated in India. It falls on the third lunar day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month, to simplify it falls in the month of April and today in India we are celebrating this festival. The sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu i.e.  Lord Parshuram was born on this day. On this very day Vedvyas began to write Mahabharata.

Akhsay Tritiya is believed to be very auspicious, on this Mahurat both the sun and the moon are at their exaltation point. In other words they are at their extreme brightness. Besides this, Venus is also at its exaltation this month.Hindus belives in Subh Mahurat for starting something new, however once Can begun anything new or perform any auspicious work on this day as we don’t need any Mahurat.

Akshaya means mortal or anything that is indestructible and Tritiya means third lunar day. So any new work started today will grow with time and nothing can destroy same. In India people either invest in assets or start beginning of new relationship on this day. There are many stories associated with this day.

One of the story is that it is believed that Lord Sun gifted Patras to Pandavas. This was an enchanted pot which had a never ending supply of food. Goddess Durga killed Mahishashura after ten days of fierce battle on this day. This also marks the beginning of Treta yuga and Satya yuga respectively.
